Dominica Passport for Afghans in 2026

Sharif Group Legal Desk October 2026 Last Updated: August 2026
Dominica Passport for Afghans in 2026

In 2026, the Afghan passport once again ranks last in the global passport index, giving its holders access to only around 23–24 destinations without a prior visa. For many Afghan families, this means months of waiting for every visa, missed business opportunities and a future that depends on a single visa stamp.

The Dominica passport is one of the legal routes for Afghan citizens to obtain a second passport and change this situation. Based on official sources and the experience of Sharif Group’s Afghanistan team, this guide explains whether Afghan citizens can apply and how the process works, from the first step to receiving your passport.

Dominica Passport for Afghans at a Glance

Status in 2026:

•  Eligibility for Afghan nationals: Yes (Afghanistan is not on the restricted list)

•  Processing time: Approximately 6–9 months

•  Residence in Dominica required: No

•  Dual citizenship: Permitted; you keep your Afghan citizenship

•  Interview: Online and mandatory for everyone aged 16 and over

•  Visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel: Around 145 countries

•  Family members: Spouse, dependent children up to age 30, parents over 55

Dominica Passport Requirements for Afghans: Can You Really Apply?

Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment Unit (CBIU) last updated its list of restricted nationalities in March 2026. Under this list, applications from Belarus, Russia, Northern Iraq and Yemen are not accepted, while applicants from Iran, North Korea and Sudan are accepted only under very limited conditions. Afghanistan is in neither group.

However, there are two things you should know:

•  Enhanced due diligence: According to the same official page, any applicant may be subject to enhanced due diligence checks, at their own expense.

•  If you have lived in Iran: The official restriction applies to Iranian nationals, not Afghans. However, your residence history, assets and financial activity in Iran will be reviewed during background checks. If you have lived or worked in Iran for several years, have your case assessed by an adviser before making any payment.

What Changes for an Afghan Citizen?

•  Visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel: With an Afghan passport, around 23–24 destinations; with a Dominica passport, around 145 countries

•  Schengen Area (Europe): With an Afghan passport, a visa is required; with a Dominica passport, currently visa-free

•  Global ranking (2026): The Afghan passport ranks last; the Dominica passport ranks around 29th

•  Inheritance, wealth and capital gains tax in Dominica: None

In practice, Dominica citizenship gives Afghan citizens the freedom to travel for business and family without waiting months for visas, the ability to plan for their children’s future, and a second nationality that does not depend on the political situation of any one country.

Dominica Visa vs. Dominica Passport

•  Dominica visa: Permission for a short visit to Dominica itself. According to global passport index data, Afghan passport holders do not need a visa in advance for a short visit to Dominica. However, reaching Dominica usually involves transiting through other countries, which may require a transit visa.

•  Dominica passport: Permanent Dominican citizenship and a passport that opens the door to around 145 countries. Sharif Group specialises in Dominica citizenship applications and supports you at every stage, from consultation and initial case assessment to document preparation and receiving your passport.

Economic Diversification Fund (EDF) or Real Estate?

•  Economic Diversification Fund (EDF): A non-refundable contribution to Dominica’s Economic Diversification Fund. It is simpler, faster and, for most families, the more cost-effective option.

•  Real estate: A minimum investment of US0,000 in a government-approved project, plus separate government fees. The property must be held for several years, after which it can be sold.

The right choice depends on the size of your family, your budget and your goals.

Required Documents for Afghan Applicants

•  Passport and Tazkira: A valid passport and Tazkira (Afghan national ID card, electronic or paper) for every family member included in the application

•  Driving licence

•  Nikah (marriage certificate): For your spouse; and, where applicable, a divorce certificate

•  Police clearance certificate: For all family members aged 16 and over

•  Bank statements for the last 12 months, or a bank account opening letter

•  All employment documents

•  Educational certificates

•  Property title deed or rental agreement for your place of residence

•  Medical tests: Urinalysis, complete blood count (CBC) and HIV test

•  Eight passport-size photographs

All documents not in English must be translated into English by a certified translator and officially attested, and most documents must be no older than three months at the time of submission.
